  • To start collecting Nectar points or Virgin Atlantic Flying Club miles on your journeys, you need to enter the last 11 digits of your registered Nectar card number, or your Virgin Atlantic Flying Club number before completing your booking. You can do this in your Virgin Trains East Coast Account, on our registration form, or at the time of making your booking.
  • Once you have linked your Nectar or Virgin Atlantic Flying Club card with your account, you’ll collect 2 Nectar points or 2 Virgin Atlantic Flying Club miles for every full £1 spent on Virgin Trains East Coast tickets at the Virgin Trains East Coast website. Please check terms and conditions which details when your points or miles will appear in your account.
  • The Nectar points you collect can be used towards Virgin Trains East Coast Advance fares and many other Nectar rewards available at nectar.com

How do I collect points on Virgin Trains East Coast Train tickets?

You can collect 2 points for every £1 spent on Virgin Trains East Coast Train tickets when they are bought online through virgintrainseastcoast.com (including desktop website and mobile website) as long as your journey involves a Virgin Trains East Coast Train (whether it’s the whole journey or just part of it). You can enter your Nectar card number within your Virgin Trains East Coast account or at the time of making your booking. 

Do I have to add my Nectar card number each time I buy tickets?

No - once you've linked your Nectar card number to your Virgin Trains East Coast account you'll automatically collect points each time you make a booking.

What if I don't have a Nectar card yet, can I still collect points?

Yes, to receive a new Nectar card you can register online at nectar.com and order one. As long as you link your new Nectar card to your Virgin Trains East Coast account within 24 hours of buying your tickets you will successfully collect the points you accrued on your previous transaction.

What can I collect points on?

All journeys where a customer travels on a Virgin Trains East Coast service, whether for the whole journey or just part of it, are eligible for Nectar points. This means you will receive points on your whole booking if only part of it is on a Virgin Trains East Coast service. For example, you would receive points on a journey between York and London because the entire journey is with a Virgin Trains East Coast service. You will also earn points between Scarborough and Brighton, as part of the journey between these destinations is on a Virgin Trains East Coast train.

Is there anything that I can't collect points on?

You won't collect points on tickets where a Virgin Trains East Coast service is not booked for at least a part of that journey. You will not be able to collect points on Virgin Trains West Coast routes on virgintrainseastcoast.com and vice versa, please ensure you are on the relevant Virgin Trains website when purchasing your tickets to ensure you collect your Nectar points. Also at present season tickets can't be purchased on the Virgin Trains East Coast website and are therefore not eligible for Nectar points. You cannot collect points on items purchased on board, such as food and drink from the on board catering facilities.  

Can I collect points if I buy tickets at the station or onboard a train?

No, at the moment Nectar points can only be collected against Virgin Trains East Coast tickets purchased on our website (desktop and mobile website). 

Can I spend points on train tickets?

Yes, you can spend your points on Virgin Trains East Coast eVouchers, which will entitle you to a cash amount of Virgin Trains East Coast credit which can be used as either full or part payment for Virgin Trains East Coast Advance tickets. The bookings must be made at virgintrainseastcoast.com and the eVoucher(s) can be used against bookings made for Virgin Trains East Coast Advance tickets only. For more information about our eVouchers available to Nectar cardholders, please click here.

How long will it take to get my points?

As long as you've linked your card, you should receive your points within 28 days. If you're waiting for points to be credited, you can check your Nectar points statement.

If you still haven't received your points after 28 days, please contact Nectar here.

What happens if I amend/cancel or refund my booking?

If you request a refund on ticket(s) bought through virgintrainseastcoast.com, the points you collected on the journey will be deducted from your Nectar account within 28 days.

Need to change your booking? 2 Nectar points for every additional £1 spent on the new journey will be given or deducted if the final cost is lower.

How do I collect miles on Virgin East Coast Train tickets?

You can collect 2 miles for every £1 spent on Virgin East Coast Train tickets when they are bought   online through virgintrainseastcoast.com (including desktop website and mobile website) as long as your journey involves a Virgin East Coast Train (whether it’s the whole journey or just part of it) and you have linked your Virgin Atlantic Flying Club card to your Virgin Trains East Coast account prior to making your booking.  Miles cannot be awarded retrospectively.

How long will it take to get my miles?

Miles will appear in your account depending on the type of ticket purchased.  See table below for details.  If the miles do not appear within the timescales outlined below, please click here to make a claim. Please note: you must be logged in to your Flying Club account to view the Claim Missing Miles form.  Please note: tickets from bookings containing more than one ticket are processed separately (according to the timings outlined below) and therefore Miles associated with an individual booking may be credited in batches.

Can I spend miles on train tickets?

Unfortunately, miles cannot currently be spent on Virgin Trains East Coast tickets.

Who do I contact if miles are missing from my account?

If the miles are still missing on your account please email us and attach the Virgin Trains East Coast booking confirmation as a PDF file to: Customer.Services@fly.virgin.com

If you still have some points left, you can redeem them as normal up to and including 30 September 2015, or convert them into Nectar points.
