Why do you want to change your Advance ticket?

I want to travel on a different date/time

You can make changes to the date or time of your Advance ticket right here on the site. But don’t leave it till the last minute, you need to do it at least two hours before the original departure time that you booked. Just go to My Account to make the change. 

If you opted for a Self-Print or m-ticket, you’ll have to change it online. All changes of any kind need to be made by 18:00 the day before the first departure date shown on your ticket.

Switching your Advance ticket to one of equal or greater value, or to another ticket type, is nice and straightforward. But there is a rail industry standard £10 charge per ticket and you do need to pay any difference in ticket cost. Also note that you will not be refunded the difference if the new ticket is cheaper.

The important bit: when you travel, don’t forget to bring your original tickets with you (including any original Self-Print tickets). Your new tickets are only valid with the old ones, so make sure you have them to hand.

I’m making a different journey/travelling with a different operator

Sorry, your Advance tickets are only valid on the train you chose when you booked. If you want to change the train operator, or the station you depart from or arrive at, you’ll need to buy a new ticket.

I'm not travelling any more

Sorry. Advance tickets can’t be refunded if you decide not to use them.

How to change your Advance ticket online

Changing your Advance ticket online is a piece of cake. Here’s how:

  1. First, sign In to My Account
  2. Select My bookings
  3. Select View against the ticket transaction that you wish to change
  4. Select Amend
  5. Select the journey you would like to amend (or if there’s a few of you traveling, select the specific tickets)
  6. Choose the reason for the change request and select Search for new tickets
  7. Amend the date/time you originally booked in the booking panel to the one you want now
  8. Select Search and choose the new train service you want
  9. Select Buy Now and complete the checkout process

The important bit: when you travel, don’t forget to bring your original tickets with you (including any original Self-Print tickets). Your new tickets are only valid with the old ones, so make sure you have them to hand.

Off-Peak

Why do you want to change your Off-Peak ticket?

I want to travel on a different date/time

You can travel on any Off-Peak train on the date shown on your ticket. For Off-Peak Return tickets, you must make your return journey within one calendar month (excluding Off-Peak Day tickets). You can check the date of your tickets here in My Account.

If you would simply like to change train times to travel on a peak service, for travel on the same day and do not hold an m-ticket, please pay the difference in fare at the Travel Centre. There is no administration fee to make this change.

If you want to travel on a peak service on the same day or travel on a different day, you need to refund your ticket online via My Account or at the station where you bought it and buy a new one. I’m making a different journey

If you would like to travel from a different departure station and/or to a different destination, you’ll need to refund your original ticket then buy a new ticket for the new journey. You can find out all about refunding your tickets here.

You can apply for a refund on Off-Peak tickets up to 28 days from your ticket’s expiry date. If you bought it through the Virgin Trains East Coast website, find out more about refunding your tickets. If you bought it from a station, you can apply for a refund at any station. If you bought it online from another website, you should follow the instructions for the website concerned.

There’s a £10 administration charge for each transaction when refunding your tickets with Virgin Trains East Coast.

Super Off-Peak

Why do you want to change your Super Off-Peak ticket?

I want to travel on a different date/time

You can travel on any Super Off-Peak train on the date shown on your ticket. For Super Off-Peak Return tickets, you must make your return journey within one month.

To check which train services you’ve booked on, sign in to My Account.

If you would simply like to change train times to travel on an Off-Peak or peak service, for travel on the same day and do not hold an m-ticket, please pay the difference in fare at the Travel Centre. There is no administration fee to make this change.

If you want to travel on an off-peak or a peak service on the same day and have an m-ticket, or travel on a different day, you need to refund your ticket online via My Account or at the station where you bought it and buy a new one. Anytime

Why do you want to change your Anytime ticket?

I want to travel on a different date/time

Anytime Single

You can travel at any time on the date shown on your ticket, or on the following day by the route shown on your ticket.

Anytime Return

You can travel outbound at any time on the date shown on your ticket, or within the next four days by the route shown on your ticket. You need to return within one month.

Anytime Day Single/Anytime Day Return

You can travel on any train on the date shown on the ticket, by the route shown on your ticket.

If you want to change your travel date (outside the above allowance), you should refund your ticket and buy a new one. You can find out all about refunding your tickets here.

Anytime tickets are refundable. To change tickets for a different departure station and/or to a different destination, you can cancel and refund your tickets online via My Account, then buy a new one for the new route.
