How do I collect points on Virgin Trains East Coast Train tickets?
You can collect 2 points for every £1 spent on Virgin East Coast Train tickets, it doesn't matter if it's the whole journey or just part of it. You have to buy your tickets on this site or from our self-service ticket vending machines at our stations.
You can enter your Nectar card number within your Virgin Trains East Coast account or at the time of making your booking on this site. If you're buying your ticket from a Virgin Trains East Coast self-service ticket vending machine, you will need to insert your Nectar card (it's credit card sized) into the chip and pin device.
Do I have to add my Nectar card number each time I buy tickets?
Not if you’re buying ticket on this website. Once you've linked your Nectar card number to your Virgin Trains East Coast account you're all set. You'll automatically collect points each time you make a booking.
If you’re buying tickets from our self-service ticket vending machines, you'll need to insert your Nectar card into the chip and pin device for each purchase.
What if I don't have a Nectar card yet, can I still collect points?
Yes you can. To get a new Nectar card head over to nectar.com and after you register, you'll be able to order one. Make sure you link your new Nectar card to your Virgin Trains East Coast account, via this website, within 24 hours of buying your tickets. That way you'll successfully collect the points you earned on your last purchase.
This option isn't available for tickets you buy from our self-service ticket vending machines. With these you can only collect points at the time of purchase.
What can I collect points on?
If any part of your journey includes travelling on one of our Virgin East Coast trains, it'll be eligible for Nectar points. This means you'll receive points on your whole website booking or self-service ticket vending machine purchase, even if only part of it is on a Virgin Trains East Coast train.
Here's some quick examples. You'll receive points on a journey between York and London because all the journey is with a Virgin Trains East Coast service. And you will also earn points between Scarborough and Brighton, as a bit of the journey between these places is on a Virgin Trains East Coast train.
Is there anything that I can't collect points on?
You'll only get Nectar points for journeys booked on this site, or purchased at one of our self-service ticket vending machines, that include a Virgin Trains East Coast train for at least part of it. Not even Virgin Trains West Coast trains count. If you're booking a Virgin Trains West Coast journey (with no part of it on the East Coast), you'll only get Nectar points for it by booking it at VirginTrains.co.uk. Same goes for booking one of our journeys on their site.
Also, you won't collect points on items you buy on the train, such as food and drink from our foodbar or trollies.
Can I collect points if I buy tickets at the station or onboard a train?
At the moment Nectar points can only be collected on Virgin Trains East Coast tickets you buy through our website (desktop and mobile sites) and from our self-service ticket vending machines.
Can I spend points on train tickets?
Yes, but only through this website. You can spend your points on Virgin Trains East Coast eVouchers, which will entitle you to a cash amount of Virgin Trains East Coast credit. You can use the credit as either full or part payment for Virgin Trains East Coast Advance tickets.
What happens if I amend/cancel or refund my booking?
If you ask for a refund on any tickets bought through virgintrainseastcoast.com, or at a self-service ticket vending machine, the points you get from the journey will be deducted from your Nectar account within 28 days.
Change of plans? If you make a new booking, 2 Nectar points will be given for every additional £1 spent on the new journey, or deducted if the final cost is lower.
