Hate Valentine’s? We’ve got the antidote
The lovey-dovey feelings of Valentine’s aren’t for everyone. So we’ve collected together some great events and activities up and down the East Coast route for when love isn’t in the air.
The perfect antidote to smoochiness, Pop Horror is hosting the Carnival of the Cold-hearted at the Royal Vauxhall Tavern . So grab your mates, head down and enjoy a night of fun and frolics as you dance the night away. Expect live music and cabaret, all this and more hosted by some fabulous drag queens. Why not throw some shade at love?

Legendary London hot spot Infernos in Clapham will be playing host to Legends of Darts this February. You’ll be treated to an evening with some of the most colourful names in darts history playing against each other, and the atmosphere will be electric. Darts has had a resurgence in popularity in the last few years and is now a great night out with your mates. So book a table and banish any thought of Valentine’s.

They came from outer space
H.G. Wells’ iconic novel is relocated to the north-east of England. Northern Stage's vivid and dynamic new production is an inventive re-telling of a sci-fi classic. The War of the Worlds charts the fortunes of a band of survivors, forced to flee from an unknown enemy and battle against the destruction of the planet. Valentine’s will be the furthest thing from your mind.

Kung Hey Fat Choi!
It’s more than just Valentine’s this weekend. Join the celebrations in and around Newcastle’s Stowell Street as the Year of the Dog is ushered in with events and performances marking Chinese New Year. Watch the spectacular dragon and lion dances under the ornate ceremonial arch or take part in traditional crafts and dances before enjoying food and drink at the vibrant and colourful party.

Don’t spend the night alone – grab your mates and head out for a few drinks. The appropriately named Social, in the Northern Quarter of Leeds, is one of the coolest bars in town. With a chilled vibe, cheap drinks, food that won’t break the bank and free table football (yes, FREE!), it’s the perfect place to spend a winter evening with your friends.
Who ya gonna call?
It’s never cool to drunk dial your ex, especially on Valentine’s, so distract yourself by exploring the spooky history of York instead on a ghost walk. Departing from the King’s Arms, you’ll be guided around town and be shown some ghostly hotspots and told chilling tales from history. Remember to keep your eyes peeled. We ain’t afraid of no ghosts!
